How Big Is That Boat?

So yesterday, Gonsalvo replied to the post and asked "how big are they?" I replied on my phone while watching TV with a guess of "4 inches or so."

I'd say that was a pretty good guess. I've put a GW Ghoul and random 15mm dude there to compare with.

Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat

The first group of Armada ships are off the painting table! They've been in process for a few weeks, between assembly, head-clearing and decision making, base texturing and simply painting them. Sail color choice was a big decision point for sure. I knew I wanted a bright color but it wasn't until I started mucking about with my airbrush colors that I had something mixed up that I was pleased with. The offset orange was the other struggle but I have to say I'm rather happy with the way my "Gatorade Greenskins" turned out, especially for rocking' that color palette.

The ships are new Mantic Games "Armada" ships - two Orc "Smasher" battleships and a "Bombboat" small ship with a big mortar. The fourth ship I picked up was missing a component in the box, so it's still in the queue.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and that you're all staying safe. Be well!

Christmas Painting!

I've painted up a few things as gifts for the gang this year. I'll be seeing Wayne and Mark on Saturday and didn't want to go empty-handed.

For Wayne, I slapped some paint on some Epic Space Marine stuff I've had for ages. I sold him some a few months back and he's always interested.

For Mark, I was stumped, then I remembered a model he had printed from heroforge.com and game me perhaps a year ago. It was to be his pirate captain for Blood and Plunder. I never did anything with it but it was a very nice model. It sat, staring at me from under my computer monitor. I put paint to metal and voila!

Yeah, I know. Crappy indoor pictures. Short December days mean I don't have much in the way of outdoor photo opportunities this week.

I hope they like them!

More Painting Through the Queue

I finished up a handful more of the Renaissance miniatures this week - swordsmen and spearmen this time. I think I may actually have enough completed to play a small intro game. Shock and awe.

I also put the wraps on Captain Cold - it's Wayne's model. He needed it completed for the Christmas-themed Batman game he's running next weekend.

Have a great weekend and be well!

Just an Update

Not much going on here. I've played a bit of X-Wing the last couple of weekends with Ziggy. Pics or it didn't happen, right?

I ran a Rebel list last Saturday and First Order the Saturday prior. The FO list work well - high initiative, high quality, low survivability ships. We were fit to be TIEd! Ziggy's been flying Empire lately so it really was a boatload of TIEs on the table. My Rebels fared badly against his TIEs though. The E-Wing, a very high-end ship, suffered from shitbox dice rolls and died swiftly and noisily. The spacetruck Kashyyk ship was pretty bad-ass though and gained many props from both of us - we were rather impressed with it.

I also had this lovely lot arrive a week or so ago:

So yeah, we'll be playing more toy boats next year!

Mikey made it home today after his long hospital stay. I guess now the hard part really begins for him with his wife now gone. Funeral is this Sunday. I'm sad.

Orks, Meet the Y

Two projects for this update. First, a follow up from last weekend's post. The YMCA sign is done and came out nicely IMHO. and the othe...
